2/9/16 - Vehicle fire

During the afternoon hours, companies 5 and 3 were dispatched to the K-Mart parking lot along Tarentum Bridge Rd for a reported vehicle fire.  Shortly after, a medic unit arrived on scene and advised a working vehicle fire on the back of a heavy duty wrecker.  Engine 5, 3 and squad 3 arrived on scene and extinguished the fire with no damage to the wrecker.

 

 

2/9/16 - Multiple vehicle accident w/ reported entrapment

During the early evening hours, Company 5 and rescues 2 and 4 were activated for the Route 56 bypass in the area of Craiddale Rd for a 5-vehicle accident with entrapment.  Shortly after, medics advised they were able to free the victim.  Assistant 5 held the assignment to service 5 to shut down the bypass at Craigdale Rd.  

 

4/7/15 - Structure fire

At 18:29 the first alarm was sounded for a working residence fire in the 1300 block of Constitution Blvd in the city.  Stations 1,2,3 and 5 for rehab and 69 for R.I.T. were alerted.  Service 5 responded and provided rehab support with NK Ambulance.

3/29/15 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - structure fire

At 13:07 station 5 was activated along with the first alarm for a working garage fire in the 100 block of Johnson St in Lower Burrell.  Engine and squad 5 responded helping with extinguishing the fire and overhaul operations.  Units operated on scene for over an hour before being placed in service by Chief 69.

3/23/15 - Structure fire

At 13:09 stations 4, 2, 1, 5, rescue 69, engine and air 95-2, and Eureka rescue 281 were alerted to the 400 block of Keystone Dr for a working house fire.  Engine 5 responded and arrived as the second due engine, laying in to the front of the structure from the hydrant at Pleasant and Keystone.  Engine 5 immediately hand jacked a 2.5 inch line to engine 2 in the alley behind the house as well as pulled the trash line to continue extinguishing the fire in the garage area.  Crews worked at the scene for a few hours before being cleared by command.

3/16/15 - Accident with reported entrapment, into a building, and fire

At 17:58 station 5, rescues 2 and 4 were activated to the Papa Johns pizza building in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd for a reported accident with entrapment, into a building, and possibly on fire.  Assistant 5 arrived on scene and advised negative entrapment and held the call to engine 5 and rescue 4.  Rescue 4 and engine 5 arrived on scene and assisted with patient care and secured the vehicle.  Crews stood by while towing crews removed the car.

3/11/15 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - structure fire

At 20:22 the second alarm was struct for a fire in the walls of a home in the 500 block of Chester Dr. in Lower Burrell.  Engine 5 responded and arrived to provide manpower and equipment while crews searched and located the fire.  Crews returned in service after and hour or so.

3/6/15 - Mutual aid to Allegheny Twp - structure fire

At 22:41 station 5 was activated to assist with manpower at a working house fire in the 100 block of Alter Road in Allegheny Township.  Engine 5 responded and crews assisted with suppression and overhaul before being released by command a few hours into the incident.

1/28/15 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - structure fire

At 14:01 the first alarm assignment was struck for 69's first due area with a working trailer fire along Larchmont Drive in Lower Burrell.  Engine 5 responded on the alarm and provided tank water and manpower as crews from numerous departments worked to extinguish and overhaul the trailer.

1/14/15 - Structure fire

At 8:28 stations 5 and 3 were activated for smoke in the basement in the 200 block of Ferry St.  Lt 5 and Assistant 56 arrived on scene to find a working basement fire with extension.  Engine 5 was ordered straight in with engine 3 taking the hydrant at Constitution Blvd and Ferry St.  Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire minimizing fire damage.  Crews from 5, 3, and 1 in New Kensington, 1 and 2 in Arnold, and Lower Burrell 3 and Eureka Fire-Rescue on the RIT assignment.

8/10/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 22:23 stations 5 and 3, and engine 95-2 were activated to the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd for an automatic fire alarm in a commercial structure.  Assistant 5 quickly arrived on scene and cancelled all units as it was the same cause as the last number of AFA's at the location, a power outage.

8/9/14 - Working vehicle fire

At 16:23 stations 5 and 3 were activated to Tarentum Bridge Rd for a vehicle fire next to the gas pumps.  New Kensington police quickly arrived on scene advising a working fire and requesting fire units expedite.  Engine and service 5 and engine 3 crews arrived and quickly extinguished the fire.  This marked the first call and first working fire call for the new Seagrave engine. 

8/9/14 - New Engine 5 in service

After a long morning of members moving equipment from the Kenworth engine to the Seagrave and then more driver/operator training at the Barnes St parking lot, members officially placed the new engine in service as of 12:00 and are anxiously awaiting the new trucks first run.  A big thank you to all the members that have contributed hours over the past few months to help make this truck possible.

8/6/14 - Odor of gas in a residence

At 17:10 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 700 block of Carl Ave for a report of a gas smell in the residence.  Crews investigated to find a large battery being charged inside and off gassing.  Crews mitigated the scene and cleared.

8/3/14 - Multiple working structure fires

At 02:56 companies 3 and 1, along with 2 and 5 were alerted to the 200 block of Ridge Ave for multiple working structure fires with victims trapped on the roof.  Crews from company 5 staffed the engine and service truck for the call.  Crews from the engine assisted with extinguishment and overhaul operations and the service truck crew operated as rehab and provided chairs and drinks to all the crews working.  Company 5 cleared the scene at approximately 07:00.

7/31/14 - Public service detail - lighting

At 19:33 service 5, engine 2, and air 1 were alerted to the Tarentum Bridge with their light towers to help illuminate the river below as crews searched for a possible jumper.  Units operated for a few hours until command ended the search for the day.

7/31/14 - AFA in a residence

At 11:25 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 600 block of Carl Ave for an AFA. Command investigated and requested all fire units cancel.

7/28/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - Poss. commercial structure fire

At 16:29 engine 5 was requested to assist station 69 with a possible commercial structure fire at Hillcrest Shopping Center.  Command 69 requested engine 5 hold in quarters and then canceled all company 5 units.

7/24/14 - Unknown type fire

At 20:31 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 700 block of Campbell Ave for an unknown type fire.  Police arrived on scene to find a resident burning grass clippings.  The resident was advised to put it out and all fire units were cancelled.

7/20/14 - Mutual aid to Arnold - structure fire

At 6:03 service 5 was requested into the scene in the 1800 block of Kenneth Ave in Arnold for a working structure fire.  Service 5 responded and set up rehab services for the incident.  Crews operated on scene for a few hours before being released.

7/17/14 - Possible commercial structure fire

At 13:03 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2400 block of Leechburg Rd for a possible commercial structure fire with an odor of electrical burning in the structure.  Medic 125 arrived on scene to find the building evacuated and nothing showing, but an odor of burning inside.  Engine 5 arrived on scene and began to investigate.  Crews found an overheated appliance and returned all units.

7/15/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 13:19 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2100 block of Freeport Rd for an automatic fire alarm. All units were canceled shortly after due to a malfunction in the system again.

7/14/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 17:33 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2100 block of Freeport Rd for an automatic fire alarm. All units were canceled shortly after due to a malfunction in the system again.

7/14/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 15:44 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2100 block of Freeport Rd for an automatic fire alarm.  Engine 5 proceeded into the scene to find a false alarm and cancelled all units.

7/11/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 10:14 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2400 block of Constitution Blvd for an automatic fire alarm with the business calling stating a false alarm.  All units were cancelled shortly after.

7/8/14 - Tree on a house

At 15:30 station 5 was activated to the 2500 block of Virginia Dr for a reported tree down on a house.  Director 24 arrived on scene and cancelled all units.

7/3/14 - Transformer fire

At 21:20 station 5 was activated for a transformer fire in the 100 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Engine and service 5 responded to find a Verizon truck already on scene.  The fire was minor and turned over to the utility company.

7/3/14 - Vehicle fire

At 17:23 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2400 block of Leechburg Rd for a vehicle fire in the parking lot.  Assistant 56 arrived on scene advising engine 3 could cancel and engine 5 to respond non-emergency.  Engine 5 responded and cleared the scene shortly after.

6/29/14 - Vehicle fire

At 03:28 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a tree fire at the ramp to eastbound Route 366 from Stevenson Blvd.  Police were soon on scene advising a fully involved vehicle fire catching the trees on fire.  Engines 5 and 3 responded and extinguished the fires.

6/18/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 22:08 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd.  All units were soon cancelled as the alarm was caused by a power outage in the area.

6/17/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - Vehicle fire

At 17:17 engine 5 was activated to assist station 69 to Hillcrest Shopping Center for a vehicle fire endangering a structure.  All 56-5 units were held in station by command 69.

6/16/14 - AFA in a residence

At 19:27 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 1800 block of Rebecca St.  Units responded to find a false alarm.

6/13/14 - Flooded roadway

At 18:03 station 5 was activated for a flooded roadway in front of Buffalo Bills on Freeport Road.  As crews arrived, they cancelled as the water had receded.

6/13/14 - Flooded roadway

At 00:13 station 5 was activated for a flooded roadway in the area of Ace Hardware on Falcon park Rd.  Units arrived and helped with traffic control.

6/12/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 9:59 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in a commercial structure in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Engine 5 arrived on scene and advised dispatch it was due to a power outage in the area.  Captain 5 cancelled all units.

6/12/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - Working house fire

At 4:30 stations 69, 56-5, 54, 115, 95-2 for RIT and air 56 were activated to the 200 block of Sunset Dr for a working house fire with possible entrapment.  The engines arrived on scene and worked to extinguish the fire and performed a lengthy overhaul.  Units operated on scene for several hours.

 

6/11/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - AFA in a commercial structure

At 6:42 station 5 was activated to assist station 69 with an automatic fire alarm in a commercial structure in the 2700 block of Leechburg Rd.  Command 69 request engine 5 hold in quarters and then cancelled engine 5.

6/7/14 - Dumpster fire

At 12:46 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2200 block of Freeport Rd for a dumpster fire.  Engine 5 again quickly crewed and arrived on scene to find most of the fire knocked down with a garden hose.  Crews flowed more water onto the debris inside to keep it from reigniting.  

6/6/14 - Public safety night at the Lower Burrell fireman's carnival

This evening the Lower Burrell fire department companies 1 and 3 hosted a public safety night during its third annual fireman's carnival.  Company 5 brought the new engine out and was awarded the "Judges Choice".  Thank you to the companies and we look forward to next years carnival!

 

6/7/14 - Microwave fire

At 11:04 companies 5 and 3 were activated to the 2200 block of Hollingsworth St for a reported microwave on fire.  Just after dispatch, police advised that the microwave was outside and not on fire.  As this came across engine 5 went enroute as a crew was in station packing more hose onto the new engine.  Crews investigated and cleared the scene.

6/3/14 - Preping the new engine

This evening the company came out to start packing the Seagrave engine to prepare it for service.  During the work detail, the company placed 1500' of  5", 2 200' 1 3/4 crosslays, the 100' 1 1/2 trash line and the 2 pony sections of 5", one being 25' and the other 50' in the trays on each side of the pump panel.  A big thank you to all that came out to help.  Driver and pump operators training will begin shortly and then as soon as the radios are switched out and the brow light installed, the new engine 5 will be in service and ready to flow some serious water.

 

6/2/14 - Fuel spill

At 22:27 stations 5 and 3 were activated to Route 366 and Marlboro Dr for a fuel spill as a result of a vehicle accident.  Engines 5 and 3 responded and assisted with clean up.

6/1/14 - Ambulance assist

At 15:17 station 5 was activated to assist medics with extrication of a patient.  Squad 5 responded and assisted New Kensington medics with the extrication.

5/31/14 - Oven fire

At 15:43 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a reported oven fire in a business in the 2300 block of Freeport Rd.  Engine 5 quickly responded as police had knocked the fire down with extinguishers.  Crews from engines 5 and 3 laddered the building and checked for extension before turning the scene back over to the business.

5/29/14 - Assist police with a vehicle accident

At 16:27 station 5 was activated to assist NKPD with shutting down the Rt 56 bypass at Craigdell Rd so police could work at the scene of an accident involving a motor cycle.  Engine, service, and squad responded to handle traffic.

5/29/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - odor of gas in a residence

At 13:00 engine 5 was requested to assist station 69 with an odor of natural gas in a residence in the 2600 block of Chambers St.  Command 69 cancelled all company 5 units shortly after dispatch.

5/28/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - vehicle accident

At 8:25 engine 5 was requested to assist station 69 with a vehicle accident involving an ambulance in the 2800 block of Leechburg Rd.  Command 69 held all company 5 units in station and then cancelled all units.

5/27/14 - Vehicle fire

At 19:41 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a vehicle fire in the 100 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd not endangering a structure.  Engine and service 5 were out the door within 2 minutes of dispatch with full crews.  While en route, an additional call was advising there was a transmission fluid leak onto the exhaust with no fire.  Units continued in non emergency and double check and fill out the report.

5/20/14 - CO detector activated

At 19:06 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 600 block of Carl Ave for a CO alarm going off in a residence.  Crews responded and had the gas company notified. 

5/13/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 8:51 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 2100 block of Freeport Road.  Shortly after dispatch, dispatch advised it was workers fixing the issue from earlier in the morning.  All units were cancelled.

5/13/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 1:06 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2100 block of Freeport Rd for an AFA.  Engine 5 quickly responded and found it to be false and cancelled all other units.

5/12/14 - Mutual aid to Arnold - AFA in a residence

At 15:38 engine 5 was dispatched to assist Arnold with an AFA in the 300 block of Murray Ave.  Units were held in quarters by command 95 and then cancelled.

5/9/14 - Vehicle into a structure

At 13:03 engine 5 was activated to assist the police with a vehicle accident, vehicle into a structure in the 600 block of Carl Ave.  Engine 5 arrived on scene and remained on scene until the car was removed and checked the structure along with NKPD and the code enforcement officer .

5/8/13 - First due structure fire

At 16:17 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the beginning block of Robinson St for a reported house fire.  Shortly after dispatch, Chief 95-2 was on scene advising a working fire.  At this time, the first alarm was struck bringing truck 1 and station 69 for rapid intervention.  Engine 5 was ordered to come straight in with engine 3 taking the hydrant and supplying engine 5.  The crew from engine 5 made a successful interior attack knocking down the fire as other members of company 5 and 1 ventilated the structure.  The fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate.  Crews wrapped up and returned in service at approximately 18:00.  In addition to engine and service 5, company 5 would like to thank the help from the crews of engine 3, truck and air 1, and engines 69-1 and 3 and rescue 69.

4/29/14 - AFA in a residence

At 20:43 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 100 block of Marlboro Dr for an automatic fire alarm.  Assistant 5 called in immediately advising 911 that engine 5 was out of service due to the light bar being switched from the Seagrave to the Kenworth and vice-versa and had engine 95-2 activated for our engine.  Service 5 went en route shortly thereafter and arrived on scene with nothing showing.  A NK ambulance was already on scene and spoke to the homeowner advising it was burnt food and all units cancelled.  Service 5 and engine 95-2 were on scene.

 

5/1/14 - New engine update

 The new engine continues its progress and should hopefully be ready for service in a few months.  All of the paperwork has been completed as well as a successful inspection.  The engine was dropped off today at 4-Guys manufacturing in Myersdale for some updates including an electronic ladder rack, brow light, among other updates.  

 

4/20/14 - Odor of gas

At 13:59 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an odor of gas in the 300 block of Camp Ave.  Engine 5 responded and had the gas company notified.

4/18/14 - First due structure fire

At 19:50 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 600 block of Esther Ave for a porch on fire.  As members were en route to the hall, they saw the smoke and knew an attack from the alley would be needed.  As engine 5 responded with 6, NKPD was on scene with flames coming fro the attic area and also advised the first in engine to come into the alley.  At this time the first alarm was struck bringing truck 1 and station 69 for rapid intervention.  Engine 5 arrived on scene to find an active fire with the resident trying to extinguish the fire with a garden hose and repeated attempts of going back into the house.  Crews stretched a crossly and made their way into the attic and extinguished the fire and then performed ventilation and overhaul.  A PA State police fire marshall is investigating. 

 

4/18/14 - Fuel spill

At 13:53 stations 5 and 3 were activated to a parking lot along the 2100 block of Freeport Road for a fuel spill.  Engine 5 responded and found a car with condensation dripping off of the muffler.  Engine 5 then returned in service.

4/17/14 - Brush fire

At 13:16 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a reported brush fire along Tarentum Bridge Rd on the New Kensington side of the Tarentum Bridge.  Engine 5 responded with a full crew and began to search for the fire.  Just after activation, station 69 was activated for a brush fire in the Braeburn section of Lower Burrell along the river.  Engine 5 searched the area and concluded that this report was actually for the fire in Braeburn.  All units returned in service.

4/11/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - Structure fire

At 23:21 station 69 was alerted for smoke in a structure in the 500 block of Cleveland Ave in Lower Burrell.  A medic unit from Lower Burrell arrived on scene and advised heavy smoke outing from the second floor.  At this time the first alarm was struck bringing engines 5, 54, 115, 95-2 for rapid intervention and air 95-2.  Engine 5 arrived on scene and helped with minor overhaul and repacking 69's hose due to it being a furnace motor fire. 

4/10/14 - Vehicle fire endangering a structure

At 18:17 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a vehicle on fire endangering a structure in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Engine 5 responded and arrived with Assistant 56 and 5 to find a vehicle not endangering a structure and was leaking oil.  Crews contained the leak and returned in service.

4/4/14 - Stand by at station 101

At 9:06 engine 5 was requested to stand by in station 101 (Markle) while they, and numerous other companies worked a large commercial structure fire in Washington Twp (102's area).  The engine stood by for a few hours with a crew until they were released.

 

4/2/14 - Multiple working structure fires

At 4:31 engine 5 was activated along with stations 3 and 1, engine 2, and rescue 69 and engine 95-2 as the RIT teams to the 1200 block of Victoria Ave in New Kensington for multiple homes on fire.  Engine 5 was requested to take the hydrant at Catalpa and Kenneth and lay up to the alley and engine 1.  Engine 5 layer 7 sections of LDH and then its crew was sent to assist with suppression.  Engine 5 picked up and returned in service at approximately 7:30.

3/27/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 20:31 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm for a commercial structure in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Engine 5 responded to find personnel stating the alarm was set off due to a power outage in the area.  Engine 5 cleared all units.

3/27/14 - AFA in a structure

At 15:06 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in a home along the 100 block of Marlboro Dr.  Director 24 arrived on scene and confirmed a false alarm and cancelled all units.

3/24/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - odor of gas near a residence

At 10:32 engine 5 was requested to assist station 69 in the area of Edgecliff Rd and Garvers Ferry Rd for an odor of gas outside of a residence.  Assistant 69 arrived on scene and cancelled all units.

3/23/14 - Unknown explosion

At 00:27 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an unknown type explosion in the area of George St and Earl Ave.  Engines 5 and 3 responded to hear complaints from neighbors in a few block radius reporting an explosion.  Crews investigated and found no power outage or any other sign of destruction.  Units returned in service with nothing found.

3/20/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - traffic control

At 00:21 engine 5 was requested to assist Lower Burrell with traffic control around a blown transformer and downed power lines.  Station 5 was cancelled before leaving station.

3/14/14 - CO detector activated in a residence

At 7:42 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a CO detector activated in a residence in the 400 block of Craigdell Rd.  Engine 5 responded and found nothing but had the gas company notified.

3/10/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - Possible structure fire

At 05:16 engine 5 was requested to assist station 69 with a possible structure fire in the 2600 block of Norma Dr.  Engine 5 responded and assisted 69 units for a short time before being released due to the fire being out.

3/6/14 - CO detector in a residence 

At 17:12 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a CO detector activated in a residence in the 700 block of Earl Ave.  Engine 5 responded to the scene and notified the gas company to check the residence.  All units cleared.

3/5/14 - Unknown odor in residence with patients

At  14:38 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 600 block of Esther Ave for an unknown odor in a residence with patients.  Engines 5 and 3, service 5, and NK EMS responded to the scene to find nothing evident.  The gas company was notified and the patient was checked out.  All units returned in service.

 

2/28/14 - CO Detector

At 15:04 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 500 block of Clyde St for a CO detector activated.  Engine 5 responded and had the gas company notified before clearing.

2/20/14 - Police assist with ladder

At 19:04 station 5 was activated for a public service detail assisting the police on Elmtree Rd.  Engine 5 responded and assisted police units before being cleared.

2/11/14 - Mutual aid to Arnold - Rehab assist

At 12:19 service 5 was activated for the rehab unit to a car into a house in the 2100 block of Leishman Ave in Arnold.  service 5 responded and set up the tent and provided refreshments for approximately 3 hours before being released.

 

2/7/14 - vehicle fire

At 22:18 stations 5 and 3 were activated to a vehicle fire in the 700 block of Camp Ave.  Engine 5 arrived to find the engine compartment smoking and cooled the area off before being released. 

2/3/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - Odor of gas

At 15:25 engine 5 was activated to assist station 69 with an odor of gas in the 2000 block of Spooky Hollow Rd.  Assistant 5 held all units in station due to the same location of this call to numerous prior incidents.  Assistant 5 had 911 contact utilities and cancelled all units.

2/1/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - vehicle pedestrian accident

At 22:53 engine 5 was activated to assist station 69 with a vehicle pedestrian accident.  Engine 5 was cancelled before calling enroute.

1/31/14 - Dumpster fire

At 1:59 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a dumpster fire at a restaurant along Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Engine 5 arrived to find a working dumpster fire and proceeded to extinguish it.

1/18/14 - AFA in a residence

At 14:21 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 700 block of Carl Ave for an automatic fire alarm.  Lt 4 arrived on scene to find nothing showing and cancel engine 3.  Engine 5 arrived to investigate further to find nothing.  All units cleared.

1/13/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 21:05 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in a garden style apartment building in the 300 block of Craigdell Rd.  Engine 5 arrived on scene and sent a crew in to investigate.  Crews found that there was a power outage that sparked the alarm.  All units cancelled.

1/13/14 - Light pole on fire

At 0:15 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a light pole on fire in the parking lot of a store along Tarentum Bridge Rd.  NKPD arrived on scene to find nothing and cancelled all units.

1/10/14 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - House fire

At 4:31 station 69 was activated for a house fire with chief 69 reporting on scene wit ha working fire.  This brought the first alarm assignment including engines 5, 54, 115, 95-2 for RIT and air 95-2 to the 300 block of Violet Dr.  All first alarm crews arrived to find crews from 69 already had all the fire knocked down.  Crews assisted with clean up before returning in service.

 

1/9/14 - Wreck with entrapment

At 18:47 station 5, rescue 4 and special service 2 respond to Rt 366 in the area of Marlboro Dr for a vehicle collision with reported entrapment.  Engine 5, rescue 4 and service 2 all responded quickly to find negative entrapment and canceling service 5 and service 4 while enroute.  Units helped clear debris and returned in service.

1/8/14 - Reported house fire

At 12:14 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2500 block of Virginia Dr for a reported house on fire.  Assistant 4 arrived on scene with nothing showing.  Engines 5 and 3 responded and investigate an area under a sink where the fire was reported to be seen.  All units cleared with no fire.

1/7/14 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 18:01 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 2400 of Constitution Blvd.   Engine 5 responded being advised it was not the original building dispatched and actually a club down the road.  Engine 5 arrived on scene to find management advising it was a false alarm.  All units returned.

12/27/13 - vehicle fire endangering a structure

At 20:17 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a vehicle fire endangering the structure at Wendy's along Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Engine 5 responded to be alerted by NKPD that the car was actually in the Sunoco parking lot with no fire.  Engine 5 investigated and returned in service.

12/5/13 - Ambulance assist

At 12:01 station 5 was activated to assist New Kensington medics with a lift assist in the 100 block of Edward St.  The crew arrived and assisted the medics before returning in service.

12/2/13 - AFA in a residence

At 12:35 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 600 block of Earl Ave.  Engine 5 arrived on scene to find a contractor working on the building and accidentally set off the alarm.  All units cancelled.

12/1/13 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - CO detector

At 17:55 engine 5 was requested to assist station 69 with a CO detector activated in the 2700 block of Edith St.  Engine 5 was cancelled.

11/30/13 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - AFA in a residence

At 19:33 engine 5 was activated to assist station 69 with an automatic fire alarm in the 200 block of Michigan Ave.  Engine 5 was cancelled before leaving station.

11/29/13 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - CO detector

At 2:18 engine 5 was requested to assist station 69 wit ha CO detector activated in the 100 block of Willow St.  All company 5 units were cancelled before leaving station.

11/17/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 22:14 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd at a big box retailer.  While the initial call was being addressed,  dispatch advised units of a false alarm due to a possible power outage.  Assistant 56 cancelled all units.

11/12/13 - Mutual aid to Allegheny Twp - Structure fire

At 14:42 engines 5, 4, and station 69 were activated to assist station 101 with a dust collector on fire inside of a company along Leechburg Rd.  Engine and service 5 responded and assisted with ventilation duties before being released by command.  

11/12/13 - MVC with entrapment

At 5:40 station 5, rescue 4, and special service 2 were activated to the Tarentum Bridge for a vehicle accident involving 4 vehicles with entrapment.  PD arrived on scene to advise that there was negative injuries and entrapment.  Fire units staged as road crews salted the bridge to prevent any further accidents.

11/5/13 - AFA in a residence

At 10:55 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 200 block of Elmtree Rd for an automatic fire alarm.  Shortly after dispatch, Assistant 56 arrived on scene and cancelled all units, burnt toast.

11/4/13 - Odor of gas in a commercial structure

At 18:42 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an odor of gas in the basement of a garden style apartment building in the 300 block of Craigdell Rd.  Engine 5, Service 5, and Engine 3 all responded to find a broken water heater.  Crews controlled the utilities and notified building maintenance to rectify the problem.

11/1/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 3:47 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 200 block of Tarentum  Bridge Rd for an automatic fire alarm in a commercial structure.  Assistant 56 arrived on scene to find a false alarm and cancelled all units.

10/28/13 - Mutual aid to Arnold - AFA in a commercial structure

At 02:25 engine 5 was requested to assist station 95 for an automatic fire alarm in the 1900 block of Dr. Thomas Blvd with a smoke condition in the building.  Engine 5 responded and was assigned to stage at the hydrant in front of Farmland Foods on Dr. Thomas Blvd.  Engine 5 staged there until being released by command 95.

10/22/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 17:27 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2100 block of Freeport road for an automatic fire alarm in a commercial structure.  Engine 5 arrived on scene to find no evacuation and someone from the business reporting a false alarm.  Engines 5 and 3 returned into service.

10/18/13 - Mutual aid to Arnold - House fire

At 14:58 service 5 and air 1 were requested to respond to the 1700 block of Leishman Ave in Arnold for a working house fire.  Before going en route, command 95 requested all units not on scene to cancel due to it being a small fire.

10/17/13 - Flooding

At 17:15 engine 5 was activated to the 600 block of Carl Ave for a flooded basement.  Engine 5 responded and assisted the homeowner with clean-up.  All units returned without incident.

10/17/13 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - CO detector

At 7:48 engine 5 was requested to assist Lower Burrell station 69 with a CO detector going off in a home in the 500 block of Donnell Rd.  Command 69 requested engine 5 to hold in station and then eventually cancelled engine 5.

10/16/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 10:37 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd at Giant Eagle.  An additional call advised county  that someone hit the alarm panel with a box setting the system off with no smoke or fire.  Assistant 5 cancelled all units.

10/12/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 14:39 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd at the Giant Eagle.  Shortly after activation, dispatch advised a proper code given and a power outage caused the alarm.  All units were cancelled.

10/9/13 - Mutual aid to Arnold - Structure fire

At 9:07 service 5 was activated to assist with rehab services to Kenneth ave in Arnold for a working structure fire.  Service 5 responded and assisted EMS crews with providing chairs, water, and other items needed for rehab.

9/30/13 - Fuel spill

At 19:38 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a fuel spill at the Sunoco station along Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Engine 5 responded to find gas station personnel had already applied absorbent to the spill and assisted the crew with clean up.  All units returned.

9/25/13 - CO detector

At 10:39 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 100 block of Wincanton Dr for a CO detector going off.  Engine 5 responded to the scene and had dispatch notify the gas company for a possible problem with the furnace.  All units returned without incident.

9/21/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 16:23 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 300 block of Craigdell Rd as well as a burglar alarm.  Engine 5 responded to again find a power outage caused the system to malfunction.  All units cleared.

9/18/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 22:10 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 300 block of Craigdell Rd in the Ligonier Hall building.  Crews arrived on scene with Assistant 56 to find there was a short power outage in the area that caused the alarm.  All units returned in service. 

9/12/13 - Flooding

At 12:12 station 5 was activated for a flooded roadway along Freeport Rd in front of Buffalo Bill's Roadhouse.  Engine 5 responded to find the the flooding had receded and returned in service.

9/10/13 - Vehicle fire

At 19:56 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a vehicle fire on Marlboro Dr near the sharp bend.  Due to being just before the regular company meeting, engine and service 5 both responded within two minutes of dispatch.  Crews arrived to find a light smoke condition coming from the engine compartment.  Crews cooled off the motor and secured the situation before returning in service.

9/9/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 7:54 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd for an automatic fire alarm in a commercial structure.  Crews arrived to find an alarm in the prepared foods section and cancelled all units as it turned out to be a false alarm due to a power outage in the area.

Saying goodbye

Around 15:30 on Thursday, August 29, the former Service 5, a 1985 Chevrolet / Eastern Rescue, was loaded onto a trailer as it began its journey to a new home.  We truly hope the Oakley, Idaho fire department has luck with this vehicle as its rescue truck.  The truck will be at its third home, the first being the Slippery Rock Fire Dept, second us, New Kensington Engine Co 5, and now Oakley Fire Dept.

 

9/1/13 - Flooding - Car stuck in a flood roadway

At 7:58 station 5 was activated for a flooded roadway on Freeport Rd at Valley St.  Assistant 56 cancelled all units as the water had receded by the time of dispatch.

8/22/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 18:19 stations 5 and 3 were activated to an automatic fire alarm in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd at Giant Eagle.  Medic 124 arrived on scene and advised of a power surge in the area with nothing showing from side A.  Squad 5 arrived on scene quickly while en

8/22/13 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - gas leak

At 6:48 engine 5 was activated to assist station 69 with a reported gas leak in the 2000 block of Spooky Hollow Rd.  Engine 5 marked enroute quickly with a full crew and arrived to find a lous hissing sound coming from the woods in the area of Larchmont Dr.  Crews investigated and found an approximately 2 inch gas line ruptured.  Lt 5 advised dispatch of the situation and requested the gas company to the scene.  Two gas company representatives arrived on the scene and took control of the situation and released the engine crew.

8/21/13 - Dumpster fire

At 08:01 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 100 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd for a reported dumpster fire outside of a restaurant.  Engine 5 arrived on scene to find a working dumpster fire.  Assistant 5 cancelled engine 3 as crews extinguished the fire.

8/19/13 - Mutual aid to Allegheny Twp - structure fire

At 02:41 engine 5 and engine 53 (Hyde Park) were activated to assist station 99 with a reported structure fire in the 200 block of Dean Dr.  Shortly after dispatch, command 99 held engine 5 and 53 in quarters with the fire believed to be out.  Shortly after, he cancelled all units not on scene.

8/17/13 - Brush fire

At 14:15 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a brush fire in the 2200 block of Freeport Rd at a business.  Assistant 56 arrived on scene to find the fire out and cancelled all units.

8/11/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 4:45 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 300 block of Craigdell Rd at the apartment complex.  Engine 5responded to find it to be a false alarm  All units were returned.

8/5/13 - Flooding

At 23:44 station 5 was activated to the 500 block of Esther Ave for a flooded basement.  Service 5 responded along with Assistant 5 and assisted the homeowner with clean up.

7/26/13 - Mutual Aid to Lower Burrell - AFA in a commercial structure

At 10:01 engine 5 was activated to assist station 69 with an automatic fire alarm in the 100 block of Little Rd at Belaire Health and Rehab.  Assistant 5 arrived quickly on scene and advised it was a false alarm with a resident pulling the alarm.  All units were cancelled.

7/12/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 15:48 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd at the Giant Eagle with dispatch immediately advising the security company reporting this as a false alarm.  All units were cancelled shortly after. 

7/9/13 - Assist the police with a tree down

At 16:53 station 5 was activated for a public service detail, assisting the police with a tree down in the 800 block of Falcon Park Rd.  Service 5 arrived on scene to find a tree down blocking the roadway that fell onto a car.  Crews winched the tree off of the steep hillside to allow for safe cutting of the tree.  Crews then cut the limbs and cleared the roadway of all tree debris and glass.

6/30/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 15:15 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in a commercial structure in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd in the prepared foods department of Giant Eagle.  Shortly after dispatch, dispatch advised of a call from the business reporting a power outage with no smoke of fire requesting the fire department cancel.  All units cancelled.

6/27/13 - Vehicle accident with entrapment

At 9:49 station 5, rescue 4, and special service 2 were activated for a vehicle accident with entrapment on Leechburg Rd in front of the PNC Bank.  The call was initially dispatched as being in Lower Burrell with 60 units already en route.  Lower Burrell police arrived to advise this was in New Kensington.  Rescue 69 arrived and began extrication as engine 5 and service 2 arrived on scene and assisted where needed.  Squad 5 closed off Leechburg Rd at Tarentum Bridge Rd until the scene was cleared.

6/25/13 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - Structure fire

At 18:55 engine 5 along with 54, 115, engine 95-2 for R.I.T. and air 95-2 were activated on the first alarm for the 600 block of Craigdell Rd in Lower Burrell for a porch on fire assisting station 69.  Shortly after dispatch, Chief 69 requested all units hold in quarters with the exception of 69 units.  Units confirmed there was no need for the first alarm and cancelled all units.

6/22/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 8:13 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd at the Giant Eagle.  Shortly after the initial dispatch, 911 reported the store called and advised the power went off and then came back on causing the alarm.  All units were cancelled.

6/19/13 - AFA in a residential structure

At 8:20, stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the 1700 block of Arnold St.  Captain 56-1 arrived on scene with nothing showing and then cancelled all units as engine 5 was about to arrive on scene.  All units cleared.

6/18/13 - Flooding

Immediately after clearing the previous flooding call, engine 5 was requested to assist engine 3 with a flooded roadway along Freeport Rd at Manor Rd.  Engine 5 then returned in service.

6/18/13 - Flooding

At 17:22 station 5 was activated to the 2300 block of Freeport Rd for a flooded roadway.  Engine 5 responded to find the flooding had subsided and called back in service.

6/17/13 - Vehicle fire

At 13:28 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a vehicle fire not endangering the structure in the 600 block of George St.  Lt. 56-11 arrived on scene and advised units of a working fire.  Engine 5 and Assistant 56 arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.  Engine and squad 5 returned with no incidents.

6/4/13 - Brush fire

At 11:58 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 200 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd for a reported brush fire between the Subway and Giant Eagle.  A New Kensington EMS unit arrived on scene to find the fire out and cancelled all units.

5/31/13 - Electrical fire in a commercial structure

At 8:40 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 100 block of Tarentum Bridge Rd for an electrical fire with smoke coming from the panel box in the rear of the K-Mart.  Engine 5 and Assistant 56 arrived on scene to find the building evacuated with assistant 56 requesting West Penn Power immediately.  Engine 5 remained on scene to ensure no fire began until electrical crews could arrive to fix the problem.

5/21/13 - Vehicle accident w/ entrapment into a sinkhole

At 13:16, station 5, rescue 4, and special service 2 were activated to the 2400 block of Leechburg Rd for a single vehicle accident with entrapment, vehicle into a sinkhole.  Engine 5 responded quickly and arrived on scene to find a minor sinkhole in which a small car already had it's front right wheel pulled from the sinkhole with a tow truck.  Thankfully the patients in the car were uninjured. 

5/19/13 - Flooding

At 15:20 station 5 was activated to the 200 block of Marlboro Dr for flooding in the basement.  Service and squad 5 responded and assisted the homeowner with clearing the drains of debris to assist with water drainage.

5/18/13 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - lift assist

At 4:18 station 5 was activated to assist station 69 with a lift assist in the 2700 block of Valleyview Dr.  Command 69 cancelled all company 5 units before leaving the station.

5/9/13 - Mutual aid to NK district 4 - working structure fire

At 18:02 service 5 was requested to the 300 block of Home St in the 4th district in the city to set up rehab for a working house fire.  Service and squad 5 responded and set up rehab for the duration of the house fire.

5/9/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 14:05 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm with an ansul system activation in the prepared foods section of the Giant Eagle on Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Crews responded to the scene and conferred with maintenance that it was a false alarm.

5/8/13 - Vehicle accident

At 12:38 station 5 was activated for a vehicle accident with fluids on the roadway at the intersection of Leechburg Rd and Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Engine 5 responded and contained the leaking fluids.

5/513 - Brush fire

At 16:05 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a reported brush fire at the BP station along Tarentum Bridge Rd.  Engine 5 arrived on scene to find a small patch of mulch smoldering and extinguished it.

5/4/13 - Vehicle fire

At 11:42 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a reported vehicle fire in the Denny's parking lot along Tarentum Bridge Rd.  New Kensington PD arrived on scene moments after dispatch advising a working car fire.  Engine 5 quickly responded and extinguished fire fire in the engine compartment of a car.  A crew from engine 3 and squad 5 assisted  crews on the scene.

 

4/26/13 - Vehicle fire

At 1:24 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a reported car fire at the BP station along Tarentum Bridge Rd not endangering the structure or pumps.  NKPD car 9-16 and Captain 99 (Allegheny Twp) arrived on scene to find a fully involved vehicle fire.  Engine 5 began extinguishment as engine 3 and squad 5 arrived on scene with extra manpower.

4/23/13 - Monthly training

At 18:00, station 5, along with stations 1, 2, 3, and 4 participated in the monthly drill hosted by station 1 at the city garage.  Crews went over forcible entry, ventilation (roof and windows) and overhauling through drywall.  Thank you to station 1 and Anthony Bruni on a successful training night.

 

4/22/13 - Porch fire

At 22:50 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a reported porch fire in the 100 block of Esther Ave.  Engine 5 quickly responded as Assistant 95-2 arrived on scene to find a controlled burn in the rear of the structure.  Engine 5 arrived and confirmed a fire pic in the rear of the structure and Assistant 5 cleared all units.

4/22/13 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - AFA in a commercial structure

At 15:45 engine 5 was requested into the City of Lower Burrell to assist with an automatic fire alarm at a credit union in the 3200 block of Leechburg Rd.  All units were cancelled by command 69 shortly after dispatch.

4/20/13 - Mutual aid to Arnold - Working structure fire

At 13:03 engine 5 was requested into the City of Arnold to assist with a working structure fire in the 2100 block of Kenneth Ave.  Chief 95 requested engine 5 establish a water supply and lay into engine 95-2.  Just before arriving on scene, a water supply was established and engine 5 was to hold at a separate hydrant.  Engine and service 5 responded to the scene.

4/17/13 - Mutual aid to Lower Burrell - Traffic control for a bomb scare

At 11:05 stations 69 and 56-5 were activated to assist Lower Burrell Police with traffic control at the Dollar Tree in Burrell Plaza.  Station 5 emptied the house with engine, service, and squad 5 responding tp shut down Leechburg Rd at St. Margaret Mary's church and not allow anyone past this road block.  Units controlled traffic unit approximately 14:00 when released by Lower Burrell PD.

 

4/16/13 - Vehicle accident w/ reported entrapment

At 11:07 engine 5, rescue 4, and special service 2 were activated for a vehicle accident with a vehicle overturned and possible entrapment at the Route 366 and Route 56 interchange.  EMS arrived on scene to find the victim self-extricated and no reason for any fire units.  All units were cancelled at this time.

4/6/13 - Vehicle accident / involving a fuel spill

At 11:51 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a fuel spill as a result of a vehicle accident at the intersection of the Route 56 bypass and Falcon Park Rd.  Engines 5 and 3 responded and cleaned up the fuel.

4/3/13 - CO Detector activated in an apartment building

At 2:26 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a CO detector activated in an apartment building in the 300 block of Craigdell Rd.  Assistant 56 and Assistant 5 arrived on scene to cancel all units with the gas company already enroute.

4/1/13 - Propane tank leaking in a commercial structure

At 7:51, stations 5 and 3 were activated for a propane tank leaking in the storeroom of a commercial retailer in the 100 block of Tarentum bridge Rd.  Engine 5 responded to find the tank already moved outside by employees and the valve had been closed to the tank.  The crew from engine 5 vented the structure for approximately 15 minutes before clearing the scene.

3/29/13 - AFA in a commercial structure

At 21:35 stations 5 and 3 were activated to the 2100 block of Freeport Rd for an automatic fire alarm.  Captain 2 arrived on scene and found it to be a false alarm, canceling all units.

3/28/13 - AFA in an apartment building

At 10:59 stations 5 and 3 were activated for an automatic fire alarm in the Craigdell Garden Apartments on Craigdell Rd.  It was quickly determined to be a false alarm due to someone moving in the building and bumping a detector.  All units cancelled.

3/23/13 - Possible structure fire

At 18:17 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a report of an odor and smoke coming from a single family residence in the 200 block of McLaughlin Dr.  Engine 5 arrived on scene as Assistant 56 cancelled all units due to a plastic spoon that fell onto the heating coil of a dishwasher.

3/19/13 - Traffic control

At 16:23 station 5 was activated to respond to the Craigdell Rd and Rt 56 interchange to assist police with traffic control due to a power outage affecting the traffic light.  Engine 5 assisted New Kensington PD until power was restored around 17:00.

3/19/13 - CO detector activated

At 9:22 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a CO detector going off in a residence in the 200 block of Deerpath Rd.  Units quickly handled the call and alerted the gas company, with all units clearing.

3/11/13 - Structure fire

At 17:31 stations 5 and 3 were activated for a reported basement fire in the 800 block of Camp Ave.  A fire fighter from station 1 arrived on scene reporting that it was a dryer on fire with the fire possibly out.  Engine 5 quickly arrived on scene and advanced a line into the basement and extinguished the fire.  Engine 3, Service 5, and Squad 3 arrived on scene and provided manpower for overhaul and ventilation.
